Upstate NY Power Corp Transmission Line

Town of Hounsfield, Jefferson County, New York

American was selected by Upstate NY Power Corp to manage the development of the $200+ million Upstate NY Power Transmission Line, a 50 mile long transmission line to connect the proposed Hounsfield Wind Farm, located on Galloo Island within Lake Ontario, to the New York State power grid. The proposed route begins on Galloo Island in the Town of Hounsfield, Jefferson County, New York and terminates in the Town of Mexico, Oswego County.

The 230 kV Upstate NY Power Transmission Line includes 9 miles of sub-aquatic cable and 41 miles of overhead transmission on the mainland. The project also includes two substations, access roads and transition structures. The onshore portion of the transmission line will be constructed within a 150 foot right-of-way.

American is responsible for managing and coordinating permit applications and regulatory agency coordination, including completion of the NYS Public Service Commission Article VII process. The transmission line will also be reviewed by the US Army Corps of Engineers under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Design related services included Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and analysis and developing and comparing alternative routes. American also designed, produced and published a website for the wind farm and transmission line projects (www.upstatenypower.com).
