City of Port St. Lucie:
I-95 and Becker Road Interchange Revised SIJR and Re-Design
St. Lucie County, Florida
American provided planning and design revision services for 1.3 miles of Becker Road including modifications to the I-95 interchange. Services provided on this project included a revised System Interchange Justification Report (SIJR) for modifications to interchange. The new configuration will have dual left turn lanes, three thru lanes, and one right turn lane. The current design configuration only provides for a single left turn lane, three thru lanes and dual right lane. The revised design plans included roadway, structures, traffic, drainage, lighting, signalization and signing and marking.
After this interchange was under construction, development to west was modified to include a regional mall. Preliminary modeling indicated that the interchange under construction would be unable to handle the anticipated traffic generated by the regional mall. The designated limits of the controlled right of way would also prohibit future access to and from the mall. American prepared a revised SIJR that identified necessary modifications that would be required in the future and how they would impact the mainline. American also evaluated the limits of the controlled right of way, prepared justification to modify the western limit and received approval from FDOT.Conceptual plans were developed for these improvements and final plans were developed to modify Becker Road and the interchange under construction to accommodate future improvements to the on and off ramps.
