FDOT District 1:
I-75 Road Widening and Resurfacing
South of SR 78 to Charlotte County Line
Lee County, Florida
The typical section includes widening and resurfacing for the existing mainline 1-75 from two to three travel lanes in each direction. The widening will be to the median and a new shoulder will be constructed for inside and outside I-75. In addition to the roadway widening, the bridge over SR 78 will be widened to match the roadway widening. Milling and resurfacing of the ramps at SR 78 will also be included. All aspects of the roadway will be designed in full conformance to AASHTO and FDOT standards and requirements. Design variations were obtained for the following: stopping sight distance and vertical curve length for the curve over SR 78, bridge widths for the existing SR 78 bridge shoulder that are three inches too narrow, and vertical clearance under Slater Road. Guardrail will be placed along the new inside lane for both the north and southbound directions. An extensive drainage analysis is being conducted for the project. A unique combination of dry and wet ponds will be strategically placed in the median to reduce wetland impacts and eliminate the need for offsite ponds and additional right-of-way. The dry and wet ponds will provide water quality treatment, attenuation, and flood plain compensation that can be used for the 6-lane typical section and the ultimate eight-lane typical section. Permitting coordination will be needed with South Florida Water Management District, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Complete construction plans will be prepared as well as an engineers estimate of construction
