FDOT District 3:
I-10 Rest Areas Design-Build
Okaloosa and Santa Rosa Counties, Florida
This project consisted of demolishing and replacing four existing rest area facilities. Three rest areas were constructed in the existing locations. The Okaloosa eastbound rest area was relocated approximately three-miles to the east of the present location, which placed it in close proximity to the Okaloosa westbound facility. The project replaced the existing facilities with new standardized facilities, which has a 20-year life and be expandable to meet public need for up to 40 years. The standardization allows visitors easy recognition of Florida rest areas. The rest areas were designed and constructed to be aesthetically pleasing and functional with low, long-term maintenance requirements. These new rest areas convey a positive image in terms of aesthetics, safety and services. American served as the prime consultant for this design-build project and we led the roadway, drainage, lighting, traffic, site-civil, utility design and landscape architectural work for the two rest areas in Santa Rosa County.
