City of Safety Harbor:
Baranoff Park
Pinellas County, Florida
The City of Safety Harbor is fortunate to have a 300 to 500 year-old historic live oak tree in its core downtown area. The City's vision was to incorporate the tree into a park that protected and featured the tree. The City also had a need for additional
downtown parking. American designed a park and parking lot that met both goals. The park features brick pavers, wrought iron style aluminum fence with brick columns to protect the 82-inch diameter oak and special up-lighting. The park incorporates a bronze sculpture and beautiful tile mosaic. For the parking lot we specified open paving blocks to decrease impervious areas, grading was kept to minimum to reduce damage to root systems. The park was designed to compliment the new library and adjacent office building.
American provided design services for the site, landscape, hardscape, pedestrian and parking lot lighting, irrigation plans and construction drawings. A drainage pond was provided and designed to blend into the park. Extensive coordination was required with the City Council and adjacent property owners.
